Discoveries Soccer Club and Winthrop University Men’s Soccer are delighted to announce Champion’s Night at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex on December 12, 2013. This game will match the 2009 Discoveries Soccer Club National Champions against players from Winthrop University’s Championship Teams of years past. The game will feature 9 current or past professional players, as well as some future pros. Featured professional players will be Enzo Martinez and Sebastian Velazquez from Real Salt Lake, and Henry Kalungi of the Richmond Kickers and Uganda National Team as well as Otto Loewy from the New England Revolution. In addition to the game, there will be a Champions Clinic (boys and girls, ages 4-16).
Both Discoveries Soccer Club and Winthrop University Soccer are partnering to help raise funds for the York County Cancer Association. 100% of all proceeds from the Champions Clinic and the Champions Game will go to benefit the York County Cancer Association.
Discoveries Soccer Club Executive Director Dave Carton spoke on the event saying, “We are very excited to partner with Coach Posipanko and Winthrop to stage this event. Having our National Championship team back together at Manchester is going to be a special night for our club and also seeing some of our old friends back in the Winthrop jersey will make it an extra special night for us and for soccer in the community. Thanks to Coach Posipanko and the Winthrop Soccer Program for committing their time for such a good cause. The big winner on the night will be helping to raise funds for the York County Cancer Association.”
“This game is for a very worthy cause and should be a lot of fun for the players and soccer fans in the community, stated Rich Posipanko, Head Soccer Coach at Winthrop University. We have raised over $58,000 for the American Cancer Society over the past three years, but I am very pleased that the money raised from this event will stay locally and have a direct benefit in our community. This being the time of year for giving, I would hope the community gets behind this event and helps us raise some money for the York County Cancer Association.”
There will be a $25 donation for the Champions Clinic. This clinic will be from 5:30PM-6:30 PM and conducted by all the players followed by the Champions Game at 7:00 PM. Each person attending the clinic will receive free admission to the game. Game tickets will be a $10 donation.
