Soccer in South Carolina:
- The Club is a member of South Carolina Youth Soccer Association (SCYSA), which is affiliated and members with the United States Soccer Association (USYSA), and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
- The state is divided into three districts, piedmont, middle, and coastal. We are in the Mid District.
- SCYSA requires all participating clubs to be members of a league. In South Carolina, leagues available in order of the highest level to lowest, are Region III Premier League, SC Statewide Challenge League, district, and recreational. We participate in Region III, South Carolina State Challenge League, President’s Medal Soccer League (classic), and Mid District Sandlapper League (Academy teams).
- Teams U15 and older, play a single fall club season, playing high school in the spring.
- Teams U14 and under play two club seasons, fall and spring.
- Teams U15 and older play Region III in the fall, U14 and under play in the spring.
- Classic teams usually travel for half of their matches during the season. Manchester Meadows is our home field for Statewide and Mid District leagues.
- Teams will be attending at least two invitational tournaments per season, along with the appropriate state cup tournaments.
- Matches are played on Saturday and/or Sunday, depending on the league.
- In addition to league play, players are encouraged to participate in the State Olympic Development Program (ODP).
Personal Commitment:
- The goal of DSC is to provide a soccer education in an atmosphere that promotes a sense of fair play and sportsmanship at all times. Our program focuses on providing every player the opportunity to achieve and play at their highest level. We focus on technical and tactical development within both small sided and full field environments.
- Teams usually retain 15-17 players. There is no guaranteed playing time for the Select player. Playing time is left to the discretion of the coaching staff. Skill level, attitude, and hard work determine which players are rewarded with increased playing time at matches.
- Each team practices a minimum of 2 days per week during the season, each session lasting approximately 1 1/2 hours. Fall season practice begins in August, and spring season practice begins in January. Each season lasts approximately 4 1/2 months. Teams play about 10 regular season league matches and participate in 1-4 tournaments each season. Players are expected to attend all practices and matches. Team success is dependent on the skill and commitment from every player.
- Invitational tournaments may require travel and overnight stays. DSC sends teams to tournaments for increased competition, and exposure to other playing styles. Members need to be aware of the commitment to the team for these events.
- DSC is a non-profit organization. In order for the Club to meet its financial obligations, it is imperative that each member of the Club meet their financial obligation in a complete and timely fashion. An overview of this obligation is provided below.
